Live Your Season
Life has a way of changing.
At the precise moment when I feel I have life figured out, change pulls me out to sea in a rip tide. I find myself in a unfamiliar place, once again unsure how to best navigate the new waters.
From what I can tell by the ripe age of 28, that’s about how life goes. Pregnancies, babies, job changes, raising kids and family life feel something like a tilt-a-whirl ride, ever-evolving and never quite… “handled.”
And when season upon season roll in like waves, it’s hard for me to accept that I can’t do everything I once did.
Those ministries, that hobby, those goals, that rest and relaxation, those date nights, that time with my kids –I want to do it all. Ultimately I find myself treading water, overwhelmed, lacking focus and going nowhere.
And in those moments, days, weeks, months, life doesn’t hold a whole lot of enjoyment for me.
But life is too short and God is too good to live frazzled and ineffective.
And sometimes the cure to that “half-drowning” feeling is simple. So simple. Too simple…
Live your season.
Sometimes, we just need to be brutally honest with ourselves. What are our limitations? Do our children or spouse need us more in these months and years? What are we called to do in this season? What are the special considerations?
We can still do so many wonderful things, but maybe we need to do less of them.
Sometimes, we must pull back and cocoon for our own well-being and that of our family. Sometimes, it’s ok to miss out on achieving personal goals, opportunities to have fun and even ministry (because, really, being a wife and mom is ministry).
In this way, life is simplified. In this way, we know our focus and commit to doing fewer things well. In this way we regain joy.
Some of us need permission to do that.
If that’s you, my friend Kayse Pratt has created an eCourse to guide you through this very process. Through a series of exercises, her course will help you define your focus, rethink your daily activities, empower you to take control of your life and ultimately, find that joy.
Through this muddled time in my life of starting homeschooling, growing my blog, and acclimating to life with three kids, I needed help figuring a few things out. This course came at a good time for me.
Because sometimes I resist my season rather than embracing it. And the truth is, I can’t do it all, so instead I’m choosing to do a few things well. This course helped me make some definitive decisions.
If you feel scattered today, consider joining this 10-day step back to reevaluate your life.
I particularly loved and affirmed Kayse’s wisdom, insight and heart for God. Her thinking truly resonated with me.
