My Takeaways from the Make Over Your Mornings eCourse

Written by

A couple of weeks ago I posted about the Make Over Your Mornings eCourse. You’ve probably heard me mention it several times because it has truly impacted my life, and I’m excited about that!

A few readers asked for updated thoughts once I completed the course.

I’m happy to say, I GRADUATED! 🙂

I took it seriously and completed each day and exercise thoughtfully because this course met a need for me.

While I don’t want to totally “scoop it,” since Crystal Paine put a lot of effort into it, and it was truly worth the money for me, I will explain it in more detail and share my biggest takeaways.

Who Is It For?

Make Over Your Mornings is for anyone who feels strung out in the morning OR who feels their morning routine could be better: working mom, stay-at-home mom or non-mom. It’s meant to be tailored to most any life.

The goal of the course is to help you craft a morning routine that will enable you start your day feeling put together and ready to take on the world.

What to Expect

It’s a 14-day-course, designed to be completed in about 15 minutes per day. Each day includes a short video and workbook component, with clearly laid out action steps.

Throughout the course Crystal will,

  • cast vision for what an effective morning routine can do for your life
  • help you evaluate your current needs and stressors
  • guide you through setting long term goals, and help you “reverse plan” your daily routines to accomplish them
  • suggest routines to consider
  • help you create and implement both bedtime and morning routines
  • motivate you to a healthier life
  • offer encouragement and practical strategies to help you follow through and make changes

My Biggest Takeaways

1. Bedtime pickup and declutter

Something clicked with me during this eCourse, and I FINALLY understood the importance of picking up the house at bedtime, and I FINALLY had the motivation and drive to create this new habit.

(As you already know if you get my newsletter. Sign up for that here.)

So now, as soon as the last kid is put to bed, I systematically go through our family room and put every toy, pillow and cup in its place. I then head to the kitchen/dinning room area (the dumping ground of our home), and declutter every last hairpin, paper, crayon and set of keys to their proper spot.

By the time I do this task (which takes 10 minutes or less since it never accumulates), my home looks like it’s ready to list!

You can imagine how much nicer my mornings feel too. 🙂

2. Commit

As a side note, Crystal suggested the app Commit within the course. I don’t normally buy apps, but was wiling to make a small investment ($2.99) since I’m trying to change my life, after all.

This is what it looks like.

Do you think after 18 days IN A ROW of decluttering my main living areas that I’m going to miss a day and break my record?

No way! Even tiredness can be overcome by my motivation to keep my record going!

You can put as many goals in as you want, so I’ll be using this to track all the new routines and daily goals I’ve established through this course.

3. Setting boundaries for blogging

Through this course Crystal helped me see the need for setting boundaries with my writing to ensure that my first priorities are truly coming first.

I think God showed me what this should look like:

  • In the morning and (hopefully) before the kids wake up, I’m going to do one hour of writing (with a timer set for accountability to not go over).
  • In the afternoon during kids’ naps/TV-time I’m going to do all the logistical blog work (like social media and graphic design stuff).
  • And on Friday mornings my husband is going to give me 2-3 hours to work on product development.

4. Exercise and healthy breakfast

While this isn’t a healthy living course, Crystal definitely challenged me to be more conscious of my health. Incorporating this into daily routine leads to long term results and doesn’t necessarily require a lot of time.

So, I’m starting small and adding 10 minutes of exercise to my day. I using and loving the Moms Into Fitness YouTube Channel. Lindsey Brin is amazing! And a personal friend of mine. …No big deal, I just know A FAMOUS PERSON. 😉

Check her out!

I’m also motivated to branch out from cereal in the morning. So far we’ve made eggs several times, as well as oatmeal and smoothies! Our grocery shopping was totally different this week. What a difference that makes!
