EP16 | The Idol of an Easy Life

Our culture (and our human nature) condition us to expect and desire an easy life. Rather than serving, we want to be served. Rather than sacrifice, we want comfort. In this episode of the Embracing a Simpler Life podcast we will be exposing the idol of an easy life, considering the value of “easy” in eternity, and taking a look at what the Bible has to say.

Scriptures Referenced

James 1:12, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trail, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

2 Corinthians 4:17, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

John 13:12-17, “When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

I just found this website today and I love what I’m reading!! I’m caregiver to my 97y/o mother. I need to stay in the eternal perspective more. I easily get overwhelmed by the ups and downs of watching my mom decline before my eyes. This COVID has taken an extra toll on our household. Thank you Jesus❤️
I look forward to the inspiring messages and comments

Loved this podcast today! Thank you Katie and Mitch, for always bringing it back around to the simple truth and focus on eternity. I love your humility and how your ministrity strives to be REAL rather than picture perfect at every angle- this is such a breathe of fresh air. God used you to speak truth and encouragement into my life today- and as someone who is in full on sahm-with-little-ones stage, this perspective shift is everything! Thank you:-)

I believe so many people been caught up in a easy life. I do believe when you follow God he will give a person the tools to deal with the hard things. The issue I see is so many Churches make some feel entitled to an easy life. Jesus said we would have trials on our life. We need to let God direct us daily so we can handle anything that comes our way.
